I also picked up the Chandra Kaladesh Planeswalker deck.Įveryone who says buying singles is the most economical are right, but as a new player, you don't really know what's good, what's not, and what you like to play. Ob Nixilis and the Mind vs Might Duel Decks. The preconstructed decks are nice if you don't have a particular playstyle yet, or want to have a guaranteed planeswalker, since the toolkits don't have planeswalkers unless you pull them from one of the boosters. ![]() If you want a preconstructed deck that might be able to hold its own at Friday Night Magic events, the Planeswalker Decks are decent enough. They are meant to be played against each other casually. The Duel Decks are nice, but aren't always standard legal (again, if that's what you're interested in). I may also be buying the Amonkhet kit, but I am thinking I might just hit the bundle box (formerly known as a fat pack) this time around. I've bought three of them: Magic Origins (not standard legal, but was cheap on Amazon), Shadows Over Innistrad, and Kaladesh. If you account for the fact that you get four boosters that retail at ~$4 each, they are pretty good deals and give you a box to start your collection in. This gives you some nice cards to start with and will be standard legal for the longest time if you eventually get into that. Like others here, I'd recommend the Amonkhet Toolkit to start. I am only a little bit further along than you are, having started playing back in February. I found the Deck Builder Toolkits to be very good values.
